At Peek Neek, we believe that some of life’s best moments are spent on the floor.

Picnics have the power to be the perfect hybrid of chill and chic. We’re a new generation of picnic-ers - inspired by the nostalgic picnics of our childhood as well as our newfound (bank-breaking) expensive taste for natural wines and artisan cheese.

We’re all about:

  • BYO everything and pulling together the most ridiculous cheese board situation you can muster on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

  • Taking the pressure out of restaurant bookings and seating plans, dropping a location pin in the group chat and hoping they’ll find the picturesque spot you spent 20 minutes perfecting

  • A last minute pizza-party-on-the-floor pivot when you ambitiously invited people over and suddenly lose the motivation to create the Ottolenghi meal you need 105 ingredients for.

Whilst searching for the perfect picnic rug, we just couldn’t find one that felt ‘us’ enough to invest in so, with the help of our incredible weavers, we made our own and began to #PicnicEverywhere with it.

GET TO KNOW US

  • Our products are designed in Australia and handwoven by incredibly skilled weavers in Uttar Pradesh, India. The supplier we work with is a heritage family owned business. This area of India is particularly historic as home to the largest hand-knotted carpet weaving industry hub in South Asia.

  • The company we work with is family-owned with a long history in rug-making. They have been audited as part of their membership to Care and Fair - an accredited organisation working in India and Pakistan to abolish child labour, create better living conditions for carpet knotting families and ensure socially acceptable production.

Finding a supplier to work with that we felt confident was working ethically was the longest and most important process in the making of Peek Neek. If you have any questions at all regarding our suppliers please reach out - we believe in an honest and transparent supply chain.

  • Pretty wild that you can make yarn from plastic bottles, huh? The fabric is actually called rPET yarn.

Without getting too scientific, plastic bottles are collected, cleaned, compressed, melted and spun through a shower like nozzle that results into yarn.

  • Whilst the Thicky Rugs don’t have the traditional waterproof backing of a picnic rug, their fibres and the thickness of the material makes them naturally water resistant. Unless you plan on picnicking in a puddle, we’re certain there will be no wet butts.

  • Although we’re inspired by picnic culture, it was important as conscious consumers that we created a product that was versatile, multi-purpose and not just a seasonal novelty.

A portable rug with outdoor resilience that was soft enough to use inside the home. This was also a consideration in not adding a waterproof backing.

  • We’ll be launching carry straps very soon - stay tuned!

  • We ensure that we pay our weavers in India a fair wage as all our rugs are meticulously handwoven on looms - we respect the time and craft that goes into each and every one.
We use a thick, high quality RPET yarn for maximum durability, comfort and water-resistance.

  • Use the code DOUBLETHESNACKS for 20% off when you buy two rugs.

Grab two colours for yourself, team up with a friend or buy someone a gift (but keep the colour you like best - we won’t tell!)
